| DONNY DIXON "BIG POPPA" WORDS FROM THE FATHER OF A FAMILY OF SEVEN It was a Monday evening when Liz told me that we were pregnant for the second time. Right then, I forgot about Monday Night Football. It was gut-check time. It was time for me to decide how I was going to handle this news. Since that night, prayer has been a part of my preparation for our new arrival. Little did I know that those prayers would only increase in number and duration by four. The night we found out we were having multiples, I began to see life in a whole new light. Even more different from when we were pregnant with Logan. Biggest lesson learned thus far? Parenting is mostly a selfless process. Being a dad causes me to revaluate things often. It seems to be a constant tug of war between what is easiest and what actually needs to be done. The Bible says that a wise man will surround himself with wise counsel. Watching my parents and Liz's parents sacrifice so much for us, their children, helps me put my own wants aside to be there for whatever my child needs. Whether I have a year with one kiddo or a lifetime with 5, Liz is the greatest wife to have at my side through it all. She has taught me so much. God has used Liz to make me the man God needs me to be for these kids. She has taught me what it is to be strong when exhausted and overwhelmed. She has kept God first, ahead of me, Logan and the babies. My children are the luckiest kids in the world to have Liz as their mommy. The job of a mother is never done. I beg that neither is that of a dad. Whether it be the manly tasks of putting things together or storing items or carrying heavy things around or be it the sensitive times such as bath time or strolls outside or taking the kids to the store. There’s always more on the "To Do List." I have a long way to go before I figure out how to be a perfect dad. But I am trying. I guess the biggest prayer I have been praying is how to find the perfect balance where I can be a better husband, dad, employee, son, brother, and friend. So, I'm going to be a dad of 5. From the beginning, it seems that most people have had a harder time swallowing this news than I have. But I admit, at times, this news has stretched me to my limits. Six Flags has nothing on this roller coaster. Email Donny, Big Poppa donny@dixonquads.com |
